Update History

Do you like the Big Bob theme’s features, but you would prefer a website with a more traditional color palette? Version 1.5 introduced Big Bob Bright Mode. You can check it out here.

Version 1.6 allows users to customize the footer section of their theme. You can add social media links, an email link, a map link, and it has an address section.

Version 1.7 offers a new background image control and improved background image instructions.

Version 1.8 offers the ability to highlight featured images and videos by exposing them to the entire screen at the top of the page like the header image on this page. This version also adds new color opacity options, and it optimizes the performance of the sticky sidebar.

Version 1.9 introduces new controls that give access to Google Fonts.

Versions 2.0 – 2.02 introduces a control which allows the creation of a mobile friendly full screen fixed header image, and Background Image controls are updated, and featured images can now be set to full screen. All of the new features are designed for mobile friendliness.

Version 2.1 added a link hover control and expanded the navbar removal to tablets.

Version 2.2.2 Added several different navbar options.

Version 2.3 – 2.3.1 added Gutenberg extensions and enhanced HTML anchor compatibility and the ability to turn off excerpt mode for pages in archive sections. With regard to Gutenberg, the updates offer a new way to add a featured video, and a way to set a block image into the background. With regard to anchors, the updates create scrolling transitions for inner page anchors and an offset for the navbar height.

Version 2.3.2 – 2.3.3 added a couple of options to increase the flexibility of the theme. It added the ability to shrink the size of the Big Description, and added a control to make the panels extra dark to increase the variety of link colors that can be used. It also added pagination to post results and the ability add the tagline to a centered navbar.

Version 2.4 – 2.4.2 performed a number of updates on the default settings.

Version 2.5.1 – 2.5.9 added footer widgets and enhanced sidebar display options and menu spacing options and improved YouTube header video functionality and jetpack styling.

Version 2.6 made the “Display Site Title and Tagline” checkbox universal so that it always applicable. Also, the menu button now has an improved look.

2.7.1 introduced the ability to widen pages and turn off the preloader.

2.7.2 – 2.7.7 refined the menu button, and made updates for the new WordPress 5.8 features.

Please follow me on twitter for the latest announcements about updates:

You may notice some features on this demo that aren’t available in the customizer. Please be patient. I want to make those features available as soon as I can. Meanwhile, you should check out the In Development section. If you have a particular interest in how to adjust the opacity of the navbar background then you should read here.

Blogging

As you look around this site, you’ll likely notice that it is set up like a traditional website, not a blog. But if you’re familiar with WordPress, then you probably realize that its original design was to serve as a blogging content management service. So if you’re interested in seeing how the Big Bob theme acts as a blogging platform, then you can check out some blogs under the “blogs” link in the menu. Or read more about it in the blogging section.

If you just need to get a site up and running fast then try here.

If this is your first time visiting this site, you’ll notice I don’t try to tell people where to look around. I think the best way to learn about this theme is to look through the menu and click on what interests you. Still don’t know where to start? Try here.

Building Your Site

My goal is to always provide the best experience possible for your users. Bearing that in mind, although I always try to do my best to create as much consistency as possible between your customizer and your preview pages and your live site, I always put emphasis on the performance of the live site. Bearing this in mind, you may notice some inconsistencies with:

  • Anchors in the customizer
  • The Navbar when the admin bar is showing on a preview page
  • Preview pages updating properly (a problem you’ve probably noticed using many themes).

Please don’t let these inconsistencies inhibit you from using these features. They will not affect the performance of the live site. And feel free to inform me of any other inconsistencies.
