Simple Set Up

You may have picked out this theme because you just need to set up a website fast. If that’s the case, then you’ve come to the right page.

Step 1: Setting Up Your Homepage

First, go to the customizer. On the dashboard just go to
Appearance > Customize.

Click on the Site Identity tab then fill in your site title and your tagline (if you have one). If you have a logo, you should load that too. You should also scroll down to the bottom of this section and add your logo to the site icon section. If you need a logo, there are several options at your disposal if you search the internet using the keywords “free logo”.

If you don’t have a logo or you don’t have a tagline, then you should skip down to Step 2.

If you do have a tagline and a logo, then try clicking on the switch that reads Big Tagline Only (make sure the checkbox for Display Site Title and Tagline is checked) and see if you like the way that looks. You may want to come back to this after you complete Step 2.

Step 2: Add a Header Image

If you need a header image, you can search for it on sites like pexels and unsplash.

Once you found the image you like, go to header media then scroll down then add the new image.

Step 3: Sidebar

If you don’t want a sidebar, then delete all of your widgets in the widgets section. If you do want a sidebar and you want to use the sticky feature then you need to make sure that the bodies of your pages and posts are not too short.

If you don’t have page bodies that are all at least a few medium sized blocks long or if you notice that you have trouble scrolling to the bottom of the screen on certain devices then you should go to the Navigation section and turn off the sticky sidebar.

Step 4: Set Up Your Pages

You can decide which page serves as your homepage in the homepage settings section. The page that serves as your homepage will determine how your featured image is displayed.

When you start a new page or post on the right hand side of the screen, you will see the option select page/post or block. When you have page/post selected, when you scroll down, you will see an option that reads featured image. When you add an image here, it will serve as a background image when you are using it as a single page or post.

If you are using a page as the homepage, then the featured image will be shown on the top of the page’s body. And if you are using the featured image as a post, then the featured image will be shown at the top of the excerpt in the feed.

You’re Good for Now

If you’re trying to set up a site fast, then you’ve got all you need to know for now. The Big Bob theme has a lot more features, but I wouldn’t get too invested in them until you’ve got your site up and running and you have more time to work on it. I leave the content of the pages and the widgets you choose to use in the sidebar to your discretion. Thanks for choosing the Big Bob theme.
